The improved platform offers expanded features that let users browse state affordable housing listings, join waitlists and apply directly to open lotteries online.

New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) has unveiled a redesigned version of its affordable housing website, HousingSearch.ny.gov, aimed at simplifying the search and application process for residents across the state.

The improved platform offers expanded features that let users browse affordable housing listings, join waitlists and apply directly to open lotteries online.

By moving to a fully digital system, HCR hopes to make the home-finding process more accessible, particularly for New Yorkers who face barriers to submitting paper applications.

“HCR’s new website is emblematic of the governor’s commitment to making the affordable housing search easier and more accessible,” said New York State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas. “New York Housing Search is our latest tool to improve access to state-financed housing in communities across the state.”

The site consolidates all HCR-financed housing opportunities into one central location, providing listings for families, seniors, veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness and others in need of supportive housing.

Users can filter apartments by accessibility features for mobility, hearing, or visual impairments and use a built-in translation tool that supports the twelve most commonly spoken languages in New York State.

Each listing includes details on eligibility, such as income limits, household size, age and other criteria like veteran or workforce status.

Property owners with HCR-financed developments can also create listings, accept electronic applications and manage their lotteries and waitlists through the site.
