NEW YORK (PIX11) — Military veterans and people with disabilities can now apply for a supervisory license to become mobile food vendors, the city announced on Friday.

The applications would be added to a waitlist. The supervisory license is a step for mobile food vendors to obtain a year-round permit. Mobile food vendors include food trucks and food carts along the city’s sidewalks.

It is the first time that the supervisory license waiting list has opened up since the program launched in 2023.

“The Mamdani administration is proud to support our disabled and veteran street vendors to help ensure they are given a fair shot when it comes to running their own food trucks and providing for themselves and their families,” said Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Dr. Helen Arteaga.

“Opening the supervisory license waiting list to more U.S. veterans and people with disabilities ensures that these communities have a clear pathway into the legal food vending system while we continue to uphold food safety protections for New Yorkers.” said Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin.
