WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Three new businesses have opened at the Paddock Arcade in downtown Watertown, bringing the historic mall to 90 percent occupancy.
The Paddock Arcade is America’s oldest continuously operating indoor mall.
Its newest tenants are Taste of the Philippines, Frosted Couture Cakery and Four Quills Book Shoppe.
New additions
Four Quills Book Shoppe is the most recent addition, with an opening date set for March 27. Owner Destynie Wood said she opened the store to fill a gap in the market.
“There’s not a new bookstore. I know there’s a few used bookstores in the community (Watertown),” Wood said.
Editor’s note: There are other new book stores in Jefferson County.
Taste of the Philippines arrived at the Paddock a few months ago and has become a lunch destination.
Frosted Couture Cakery also moved in recently. Owner Sarah Saulibio said the arcade has a welcoming atmosphere.
“Three months this month, so it’s pretty exciting. We’re brand new, at least to the Paddock. It’s just like a big happy community here,” Saulibio said.
Existing tenants welcome new neighbors
Lee Ellsworth, part-owner of Paddock Arts and Antiques, said he has been supportive of the new businesses.
“It’s great to have the Frosted Couture next door. The Philippine restaurant — we all like that. It’s a different menu to what we normally have and it’s really good,” Ellsworth said.
The arcade has been in operation for 176 years.
