BOX SCORE

WESTMINSTER, Md. –

Second-seeded Brooklyn College trimmed a 15-point second half deficit down to six, but top-seeded and host McDaniel downed the Bulldogs for a 66-59 win in the title game of the ECAC Division III Women’s Basketball Championship on Sunday at the Gill Center.  The Green Terror finish 22-7 overall, while the Bulldogs wrap up their campaign at 24-5.

Brooklyn’s 24 wins matched the single-season program record and are its most since the 2017-18 season.

McDaniel led 33-20 at halftime and 39-24 just over three minutes into the second half.  Brooklyn outscored the Green Terror 14-6 the rest of the quarter and a Brianna Jackson basket at the buzzer made it a seven point game, 45-38.  After McDaniel pushed the lead back to 12, 52-40, in the opening two minutes of the second half, a 8-2 Bulldogs spurt made it 54-48 with 5:34 to play.  McDaniel led by as many as 11 before the guests cut the lead to six, 65-59, with 36 seconds left, but that would be as close as they would get.

Jackson led Brooklyn with 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Anna Kitch added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Ariel Williams contributed eight points off the bench. The Bulldogs controlled the paint with 36 points inside and held a slight 38-36 rebounding edge. Brooklyn shot 37.7% for the game but was just 2-16 from long range.

McDaniel, a Centennial Conference semifinalist, shot 42% overall and was 8-23 from deep, and 16-24 at the free throw line as opposed to Brooklyn’s 11-15 performance at the stripe.
