Southern Intercollegiate Tournament Central
VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton golf team is set to compete in its first new event of its spring season when the Bearcats play in the Southern Intercollegiate Monday at Athens Country Club in Athens, Ga.
The 36-hole tournament, hosted by Georgia, will be played throughout Monday. Joining Binghamton and Georgia in the field are Arkansas Pine Bluff, Augusta, Charleston Southern, Chicago State, Detroit Mercy, Georgia State, Manhattan, Mercer, Mount St. Mary’s, North Carolina A&T, Radford, Tennessee State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Western Carolina and West Georgia.
The Bearcats opened their spring season last week by tying for second at the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invite. It was the third time this season that Binghamton finished second at a tournament. Leading the Bearcats at the SHU Spring Break Invite was Harrison Blech, who posted the best finish of his career by tying for third with a score of 71-72-75 = 218/5-over par. Alex Patel also tied for 11th with the lowest 54-hole score of his career at 73-76-72 = 221/5-over par. It was also the second time the freshman finished an event inside the top 20 this season, after he previously placed 10th at the Blue Hen Intercollegiate last September.
The Southern Intercollegiate begins Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
