CENTRAL ISLIP, Long Island (WABC) — A woman has been arrested after allegedly driving while intoxicated and crashing her car into a home on Long Island early Sunday morning.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. near Birchgrove Drive and Nostrand Avenue in Central Islip.

The driver plowed into the home, barreled through the front, and landed just a few feet from Johana Moreno’s bedroom. Her sister, Selina, was also right there when it happened.

“The window like exploded,” Johana said.

According to Suffolk County Police, Estefany DeJesus, 30, was driving on Birchgrove Drive when she lost control of her BMW, left the roadway and crashed into the home, causing significant damage.

Selina’s husband heard the loud bang.

“He said ‘oh call 911, a car crashed into our house,’ I’m like ‘what?!'” said Selina.

Just about everyone was sleeping, including six kids – the youngest just two months old.

Selina says at one point, DeJesus hit the gas instead of reverse and went further into the home.

“She says her boyfriend was following her. She was screaming – I told her, ‘calm down, calm down!” Selina said.

The family was in the process of renovating their kitchen – that was the key factor. Their gas stove was disconnected, so it could have been a whole lot worse.

“The gas pipe is here, it was bent. If there was a kitchen working, everything would have exploded,” says Selina.

DeJesus was charged with DWI. No one was hurt.

“Material we can fix and get back, but our lives are more important than that,” Selina adds.
