1. DOT goes on ‘pothole blitz’ to fix city roads

More than 80 crews spread out across New York City on Saturday to fill potholes as part of the Department of Transportation’s “pothole blitz.”

This year’s winter had long stretches of freezing temperatures, snow, salting, melting and refreezing, creating the conditions for potholes to form across the five boroughs. More than 10,000 potholes were filled last week alone, according to the DOT.

2. St. John’s to play Northern Iowa in first round of NCAA Tournament

St. John’s University’s basketball team is heading to San Diego. They are a No. 5 seed in the East region, and will play Northern Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.

Head coach Rick Pitino, who brought the team back to prominence, is getting ready to study Northern Iowa’s basketball team.

3. Manhattan synagogue holds Interfaith Iftar in a symbol of unity

Jewish and Muslim New Yorkers broke bread together Friday, united in faith and enduring tradition. 

After Shabbat services, Temple Emanu-El on the Upper East Side held its annual Interfaith Iftar — the daily meal Muslims have at sunset to break their fast during Ramadan.
