Tension has erupted in the Black Queens camp as players boycotted their scheduled training session on Saturday morning, refusing to board the team bus and opting to remain in their hotel rooms.
The protest, sources say, stems from unpaid bonuses totaling $9,500 per player from the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in July. The players have vowed not only to skip training but are also threatening to boycott Tuesday’s crucial second-leg qualifier against Egypt if the outstanding payments are not made.
The Ghana women’s national team is preparing to face Egypt in the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium, holding a comfortable 3–0 advantage from the first leg in Cairo. However, the current impasse has cast uncertainty over the team’s readiness for the decisive fixture.
Officials from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are reportedly in urgent discussions with the players in a bid to resolve the matter before Tuesday’s match.
Despite the strong stance from the squad, fans remain hopeful that the issue will be settled swiftly to allow the Queens to take the field and continue their push toward WAFCON 2026 qualification.
