An off-duty NYPD detective shot and critically wounded a 30-year-old man in the Bronx, police said Tuesday.

The detective, who is assigned to the NYPD’s Intelligence Bureau, shot the man in the head on E. 231st St. near Bronxwood Ave. in Wakefield about 9:15 p.m. Monday, cops said.

An associate took the victim to New York Presbyterian-Allen Hospital in upper Manhattan, where he is in critical condition.

Details about what led up to the shooting were not immediately released. No charges were immediately filed.

Police were scouring the area for surveillance footage that could help them determine exactly how the shooting unfolded.
