New York Attorney General Letitia James has launched a new lawsuit against a home improvement company for using “predatory practices” to install rooftop solar systems and defraud low-income and elderly residents out of hundreds of millions of dollars.

The lawsuit filed Tuesday in the Supreme Court of New York alleges Attyx, LLC (formerly SUNco Capital) promised customers free roofing, HVAC and other home improvements if the company installed solar systems on their roofs. But once homeowners agreed to install the systems, they were left on the hook for crippling bills they could not afford, the state said.

“When New Yorkers need home repairs, they should be able to get quality service without worrying about scammers cheating them out of their savings,” said James, a Democrat, in a statement announcing the lawsuit.

“My office will fight in court to bring these companies to justice and deliver relief to the thousands of New Yorkers who were ripped off by this illegal scheme,” James said.
