MASPETH, Queens (PIX11) — Two moped riders were critically injured after they were hit by a vehicle during a police chase in Queens on Friday, according to preliminary information from the NYPD.

Officers responded to a 911 call for an assault near 54th Avenue and 69th Street at around 12:10 p.m., police said. When they arrived at the scene, the suspect and the victim were fighting.

The cops then tried to detain the suspect, but the perpetrator and another person hopped on a moped and took off, police said.

The officers then followed the moped before it was hit by a vehicle near 70th Street and Garfield Avenue. The moped riders were taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the NYPD.

No other information was immediately available.
