BINGHAMTON, NY (WBNG) – The New York State Boys Basketball Championships are two days away, with games set to be played at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. The tournament tips off Thursday at 6 p.m. with Maine-Endwell representing Section IV in Class A in the opening game.
The tournament features four teams representing every class from D through Class AAA. Three Section IV boys teams will compete: Corning in Class AAA, Seton Catholic Central in Class AA, and Maine-Endwell in Class A.
The three-day tournament draws thousands of visitors from across New York State to Binghamton. New York State Boys Basketball Tournament Director Jeff Baier said the event generates significant revenue for the region.
“It’s huge — just the economic value alone is probably a couple of million dollars by the time we sell out the hotels, people go out to eat, they buy gas, go shopping,” Baier said. “It’s huge and it’s huge for our local athletes to be able to see some of the best players in New York State play.”
The influx of visitors is expected to fill area hotels for the duration of the tournament. Local residents are also able to attend games at the arena throughout the event.
