NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Following an extreme winter with dangerous cold snaps and more than 20 inches of snow in New York City, 311 data shows that many residents lacked heat and hot water in the frigid temperatures.

Heat and hot water service requests were the no. 1 issue called in by New Yorkers in February 2026, according to the NYC311 Monitoring Tool on the New York State Comptroller’s website.

About 59,031 people across the five boroughs reported issues, with the highest number of calls coming from Manhattan and the Bronx. The overall number was up from 40,699 service requests in the same time period last year, showing almost an 11% increase.

Illegal parking complaints were also up across the city, with about a 4% increase in calls. Brooklyn and Queens showed the highest number of service requests, with a total of about 34,790 reported issues.

Staten Island showed the highest number of requests for snow and ice removal in the city, with a call increase of 3,427% from last year, 311 data shows.

Three days after the blizzard on Feb. 22, parts of New York City, especially Staten Island, were still digging out from more than two feet of snow.

Frigid temperatures resulted in the deaths of nearly 20 New Yorkers outdoors and seven in private homes, according to City Hall.

City Hall did not respond to PIX11 News’ request for comment on the 311 data at the time of publishing.
