IlluminArt Productions will present “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” at the On Your Mark Playhouse from Oct. 25 to Nov. 2.
The 80-minute family-friendly production is based on Rick Riordan’s bestselling novel and follows teenager Percy Jackson as he discovers he’s the son of Poseidon. The story takes audiences into a world of Greek gods, monsters, and heroic quests as Percy and his friends race to recover Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt before war erupts on Mount Olympus.
Director Justine Giachetti said the Percy Jackson stories have resonated with audiences for two decades. “This story has meant so much to readers over the last twenty years,” Giachetti said. “These stories have become more than an escape; they have become a mirror, helping countless kids and adults alike to see their challenges not as setbacks, but as strengths.”
The musical is part of IlluminArt Productions’ Theatre for Young Audiences Season, which brings professional productions to Staten Island families at low or no cost. The company’s mission focuses on empowering students to use arts to illuminate social issues and create positive change while developing social emotional learning skills.
The production promises audiences an adventure filled with gods, monsters, and music as Percy embarks on his mythological quest to prevent catastrophe on Mount Olympus.
Performances will be held at the On Your Mark Playhouse, located at 129 Clinton Ave., Staten Island. Tickets are available at onthestage.tickets/show/illuminart-production.
