Sean Curbow, 35, fell Wednesday as he was inspecting the sanctuary at Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene for damage following last week’s storm.

Curbow was on a man lift that tipped over, Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche said, sending him plummeting 35 feet into the pews below.

In his obituary, family detailed that Curbow had been born in Valparaiso, Indiana, to parents David Curbow & Dawn (Cardenas) Smith. He married his wife, Gabrielle Guebert, in July 2013, at the same church where the accident occurred.

Curbow enjoyed disc golf, construction work, soccer, riding his bike, and collecting Spiderman memorabilia, his obituary reads. He loved his dogs, Kylo & Robin.

Curbow also “loved being a part of the church youth groups, where he went on many mission trips and conferences.

“Most of all, Sean cherished spending time with his wife and family,” the obituary reads.

Curbow is survived by his wife, parents, sister Tara (Patrick) Enocksen of Valparaiso; two brothers, Eric Curbow and Seth Curbow, both of Valparaiso; two nieces, Jayden Enocksen and Jocelyn Enocksen; one nephew, Jaxson Enocksen, and more family listed in his obituary.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 23, at Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene, 1000 N. Entrance Ave.

An additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the 11 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, March 24, also at the church.

Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene Youth Group or to the family wishes, the obituary reads.
