SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A tractor-trailer hauling an overheight excavator struck more than a dozen overpasses along the New York State Thruway in Central New York.
New York State Police reported that the crashes happened around 1:45 p.m. on March 18, as the truck traveled westbound between exits 30 and 36.
Troopers stopped the truck at the Mattydale tandem lot in the Town of Salina and identified the driver as Oleksander Tarakanovskyi, 38, of North Carolina.
Investigators found the truck hit overpasses across about 60 miles.
NYSP commercial vehicle enforcement, Thruway Traffic Safety, Maintenance and Bridge Inspection teams responded to check the damage.
No injuries were reported, and there were no lane closures or major traffic delays.
Most overpasses had minor damage, but a few had moderate damage.
All lanes and overpasses remain open while bridge inspections continue.
Troopers charged Tarakanovskyi with reckless endangerment and gave him more than 20 traffic tickets, including for federal commercial vehicle safety violations.
He was processed at SP Syracuse and released with an appearance ticket for Salina Court on April 8.
