1. Syracuse women’s basketball NCAA Tournament preview vs. Iowa State
Nine-seed Syracuse versus eight-seed Iowa State in the women’s NCAA Tournament could come down to a battle of the bigs. Syracuse’s star freshman Uche Izoje averaged 15.5 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game while shooting 55.6% from the field, starting all 31 games for the Orange en route to being named the 2026 ACC Rookie of the Year.Â
2. Syracuse shelter says it’s ‘beyond full’ capacity, requests donations
The Syracuse Rescue Mission’s emergency shelter is “beyond full,” said CEO Dan Sieburg in a Facebook post. According to the post, nearly 700 separate people at risk of homelessness have stayed in the shelter since the start of this winter’s cold weather.
A tractor trailer hauling an over-height excavator struck more than a dozen overpasses along the New York State Thruway in Central New York, according to State Police.
4. Man shot outside Destiny USA has died, police say
A man who was shot in a parking lot outside of Destiny USA last weekend has died.
5. Chuck Norris, martial arts master and actor whose toughness became internet lore, dies at 86
Before he would become a star in movies and on TV, Norris was wildly successful in competitive martial arts. He was a six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate champion.
6. U.S. deploys thousands more for war as Iran threatens world tourism sites
Iran threatened to target recreational and tourist sites worldwide and insisted it was still building missiles. Its supreme leader issued another defiant statement on Friday, nearly three weeks into U.S.-Israeli strikes that have killed a slew of Tehran’s top leaders and hammered its weapons and energy industries.
