In Lindsay, dreams are nurtured by the biggest dreamers. I am proud to be one of them. Molded by this community, inspired by its people, and forever grateful to call it home. My name is Jocelyn Garza, and I am honored to serve as a Queen Attendant for this year’s Orange Blossom Festival. I am 17 years old, a senior at Lindsay High School, and the daughter of Joe and Dolores Garza, whose love has shaped who I am today.Â
When I was three years old, my parents signed me up for T-ball through Lindsay’s Youth Softball and Baseball program, creating the foundation for my high school softball career. I am a four-year varsity athlete and two-year captain. The most meaningful part of that journey became a full circlewhen I returned as a volunteer T-ball coach during my freshman year. The support and guidance I’ve received from Lindsay inspired me to give back in every way I could.Â
At the age of six, I discovered my second passion, which would play a major role in who I became. Cheer! Lindsay’s Youth Cheer program prepared me with skills such as leadership, confidence, and teamwork. I continued as a four-year varsity cheerleader in high school, proudly serving as captain for two years. During my junior and senior years, I returned as a volunteer cheer coach, guiding the next generation of athletes. Leading my 8U team, we placed first and won Grand Champion titles. However, the most rewarding part was helping these young athletes develop life-long skills. Through these experiences, I accumulated more than 780 hours of community service and learned that leadership is measured not by accomplishments, but by the lives we touch.
Just as I have given back to my community, I have dedicated myself to my academic and career dreams. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA, became a life-time member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) and Cardinal Early College Academy, where I am working toward my AA/AS degree. I am part of the Academy of Engineering at LHS, and I plan to major in Architecture or Civil Engineering at a four-year university. I want to build structures, but more importantly, help build stronger communities. I have embraced leadership roles that challenge me. I serve as ASB City Council Representative, class Vice President, and Master of Ceremonies for major school events. I also represent Lindsay High School as SkillsUSA reporter. Most recently, I completed an eight-month internship with CAPS (Climate Action Pathways for Schools), supporting efforts to create more sustainable and cost-effective learning environments in our district.
As I continue on my journey, I will carry the values Lindsay has instilled in me, leadership, service, and heart, into everything I do. I am honored to represent Lindsay and celebrate its spirit at this year’s Orange Blossom Festival – Citrus Dreamin’.
