New York State Public Schools are off a day this week for a holiday and parents should prepare for childcare. A lot of students and teachers are off for a day this week and it is catching parents by surprise.
On Friday, a lot of New York State public elementary and high schools will have off for the Eid al-Fitr holiday. A lot of public districts have off so it is important that you check your district calendar so that you are not caught off guard:
I had no idea that we suddenly have this holiday off and now I have to scramble to find a babysitter”, one mom wrote on Facebook this weekend.
Another parent wrote:
The school needs to do a better job of communicating with parents when they are going to add new holidays”.
Of course, it is an important holiday for different cultures, but most parents were hoping that the New York State school districts would have communicated a little better that their kids are off so that they can plan better. It is a holiday that is a new introduction to the typical school year.
Other parents rejoiced that they are getting these holidays off.
This is wonderful news!!”, one mom wrote on social media.
What is Eid al-Fitr? Do kids and students get off for Eid al-Fitr?
It always falls in the middle of March and marks the end of “Festival of Breaking the Fast”, which is a 3 day holiday for Islamic cultures.
What other holidays are being added to a lot of New York State school districts calendar?
