NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Bernie Sanders is turning up the heat on Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The Vermont senator will join a Bronx rally calling on Hochul to increase taxes on wealthy New Yorkers and corporations, a key promise from Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s campaign.
The rally, organized by the Democratic Socialists of America, comes just before the state budget is due on April 1.
“Senator Sanders’ involvement shows that New York’s budget fight isn’t just a local issue. Governor Hochul has a chance to stand up to Trump while backing the working class, and she can do that by taxing the rich,” said NYC-DSA Co-Chair Grace Mausser.
The state legislature has proposed a tax on New York City’s wealthiest people and corporations, but Hochul has not changed her tune. She’s long said increased taxes are a non-starter.
