Would the New York Giants consider trading superstar nose tackle Dexter Lawrence? Pro Football Focus believes so.

While breaking down each team’s top trade asset, PFF settled on Lawrence for the Giants ahead of the 2026 NFL draft, arguing that they’re a rebuilding team under head coach John Harbaugh.

The Giants are firmly in rebuild mode, and their lone elite interior force stands out as a potential trade candidate. Lawrence earned a 78.4 PFF overall grade in 2025, including an 84.5 PFF pass-rush grade, continuing to impact games as both a run defender and interior disruptor.

While his run-defense performance dipped slightly from previous seasons, he has consistently been one of the league’s most dominant run defenders since entering the NFL. His strength and ability to collapse the pocket elevate any front seven, and his positional value makes him a rare asset. Trading Lawrence could bring back a strong return and provide the Giants with the capital needed to rebuild both lines.

PFF’s assessment is actually a case for the Giants keeping Lawrence, and not the other way around. Yet they insist the return would be worthwhile.

However, the Giants have repeatedly and emphatically dismissed any notion of trading the three-time Pro Bowl lineman. General manager Joe Schoen has expressed surprise at such speculation, stating there is “zero truth” to ideas of moving Lawrence.

Sources close to the team describe Lawrence as “untouchable,” barring an extraordinary, “insane” offer that would defy typical trade value.

The organization views Lawrence as a foundational piece—particularly under the new coaching regime emphasizing physical, trench-dominant play—and has no interest in parting with their premier interior defender, especially given his contract through 2027 and expectations for a rebound in 2026 following an injury-affected 2025.

While external evaluations may spotlight Lawrence’s market appeal, the Giants’ clear stance prioritizes retaining him as a cornerstone of their defensive rebuild.
