Full-time NYU faculty members affiliated with the UAW are on strike after failing to reach an agreement with university administration.
The decision comes after the bargaining committee extended the strike deadline. The union says its demands include higher pay, job security and for the administration to address their workloads.
In a post to social media, the union announced they were on an unfair labor practice strike and shared their picketing schedule.

“An unnecessary strike does not change what a fair and sustainable agreement will look like. The University has offered a strong comprehensive package that would improve the lives of every one of the union’s members. We hope the union is serious about reaching a resolution,” Wiley Norvell, chief communications officer at NYU, said in a statement, in part.
NYU says classes continued Monday, with substitute instructors or alternative faculty in place for every section affected, and “qualified administrators met with students to lay out plans for coursework.”
