ALBANY, N.Y. — New York’s 2025 hunting season was the safest ever recorded.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reported that there were seven hunting-related shooting incidents in 2025, with five being self-inflicted and two involving more than one person.
One of the incidents involved an unlicensed person hunting illegally.
No shooting fatalities were reported during the 2025 season.
The DEC also documented nine falls from tree stands or elevated platforms, including one fatality.
Officials said hunters can prevent severe injuries or death by wearing and properly using a fall-arrest system that keeps them attached to the tree at all times.
