Pop star Bebe Rexha, who hails from Staten Island, performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” ahead of Game 2 of the 2025 World Series on Saturday in Toronto, Canada, according to Fox Sports.
This year’s championship series features the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Rexha’s rendition of the national anthem sparked mixed reactions online, according to the Daily Mail. On X, formerly known as Twitter, some viewers described the performance as “flat.”
“I cannot do it better than her; but having said that, she does go flat at times lol. Whitney and Stapleton are the GOATs,” said Reformed_Patri8, a user based in Nevada.
“‘Stunning’?? It stunned my ears, and not in a good way,” wrote MiMi_Mae_SouthOne.
Others praised the performance.
“She’s incredible,” said X user stakit_live.
“Nice,” added Misha21122.
Pharrell Williams and Alessia Cara performed the Canadian national anthem, “O Canada.”
