NEW YORK (WABC) — The New York Road Runners is kicking off festivities ahead of next weekend’s TCS New York City Marathon with a youth event in Manhattan.

More than 2,5000 runners between the ages of 2 to 18 participated in the free youth event in Central Park on Sunday morning.

The event featured a series of races and dashes of varying distances, games and activities for the whole family. It began at West Drive, just south of West 67th Street, near the TCS NYC Marathon finish line.

According to the nonprofit, many of Sunday’s youth event participants are part of the Rising New York Road Runners program, which serves 200,000 students nationwide, including 100,000 here in the city. The New York Road Runners hosts more than 20 free youth events throughout the year.

The event marks the beginning of marathon race week in New York City. The weeklong festivities culminate next Sunday, Nov. 2, when more than 50,000 runners from around the world to a vast range of runners across experience levels, ages, genders, abilities, and backgrounds take to the streets for the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon.
