EAST NEW YORK — A 60,000 square foot intake center at 114 Snediker Ave. is set to open for women experiencing trauma.
The new facility is part of the city’s efforts to modernize shelters and is managed by nonprofit HELP USA, which operates supportive housing and 28 homeless shelters focused on single women in NYC. HELP USA reports that the current shelter receives about 4,000 requests for shelter from women annually. With the new space, the shelter will offer 200 temporary beds and relocation to long-term shelters.
The new site replaces a former shelter on Williams Avenue and will begin operations on March 30.
