The Philadelphia Eagles are 6-2 after beating the New York Giants at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday. Final score: 38 to 20.

This was a much-needed outcome for a Birds team that failed to outgain their opponent in every game prior to this result. Really nice to win comfortably for once.

And the Eagles did it despite missing two key starters in A.J. Brown and Cam Jurgens. They also had multiple injuries on defense.

The performance of the Eagles’ running game was really encouraging to see. The Giants’ bad defense certainly helped them. But the Birds previously failed to run on New York in their Week 6 loss at MetLife Stadium, where they gained just 73 yards. Taking out Tanner McKee’s three end of game kneel downs, the Eagles logged 30 carries for 278 yards.

Saquon Barkley led the way with 14 carries for a season-high 150 yards and one touchdown, which came on a 65-yard scamper. Barkley suffered a groin injury on a run that ended the third quarter. His backup, Tank Bigsby, helped to finish the game by totaling nine carries for 104 yards.

It wasn’t just the running game that was working on Sunday; Jalen Hurts was very efficient by going 15/20 for 179 yards, four touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a 141.5 passer rating. Two of his four scores were caught by Dallas Goedert.

The Eagles’ starting defense surrendered just 13 points to the Giants before the backup unit came in and gave up a garbage-time touchdown. Jaxson Dart was sacked five times.

All told, a good win for Nick Sirianni’s group.

Next up for the Eagles: a Week 9 bye to rest up and get healthy ahead of the Eagles’ big Week 10 Monday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. And we’ll see if Howie Roseman ends up making a move or two prior to the NFL trade deadline on November 4.
