CORONA, Queens (WABC) — A fire tore through a home in Queens Thursday morning, prompting firefighters to shift their focus to protecting nearby buildings.
The FDNY says a call came in at 10:15 a.m. for a fire on the second floor of a private dwelling on 42nd Avenue in the Corona section, just blocks from Citi Field.
The fire escalated to a second alarm at 10:36 a.m. as heavy flames ripped through the home, which later suffered an interior collapse.
A total of 46 units and 141 fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene. Firefighters have been working to keep the flames from spreading to neighboring structures.
Video from the scene shows the house engulfed in flames as thick smoke billows into the air.
There is no word yet on injuries or what caused the fire.
