Former Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer has launched a “Community Scholarship” for students of his alma mater, P.S. 70 in Astoria, through the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program. The program provides scholarship accounts to every public school kindergartener to support their college and career goals.
NYC Kids RISE’s Community Scholarships allow for individuals, businesses, non-profits, and other organizations to collectively contribute directly to students’ accounts.
Jimmy Van Bramer, a New York City Public School alumnus, Commissioner of the New York City Public Design Commission, and former City Council Member representing the western Queens neighborhoods where he grew up, met with third-grade students at his elementary alma mater, P.S. 70 in Astoria to imagine college and career pathways following an investment for their future higher education as part of the NYC Public School Alumni Community Scholarships initiative.
Through the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program, nearly every student attending a New York City public school in kindergarten through fourth grade has an NYC Scholarship Account with money already set aside for higher education. Jimmy Van Bramer is one of the NYC Public School Alumni across the city who has led a NYC Public School Alumni Community Scholarship for students in the Program attending his elementary school, P.S. 70 in Astoria. Alumni are adding money to the students’ accounts, directly investing in their college and career futures, and sending a message that the students have support from their alumni network to achieve their college and career dreams.
