Jeffries, speaking with CBS News’ Margaret Brennan, cited his preoccupation with the recent government shutdown talks as the reason for the last-minute endorsement.

“I’ve been immersed in the intensity surrounding the government shutdown,” Jeffries told Brennan. “But I support the Democratic nominee, as I indicated, and we’re in alignment in terms of the issue related to affordability and the need to address it decisively for the city of New York.”
