According to the complaint, Brooklyn Park officers responded to a report of a person experiencing a mental health crisis at a residence on the 6800 block of 90th Avenue North at about 8 p.m. on March 25.

Ali’s mother told officers her son was sick and had not been taking his medication. She said he stabbed a door with a knife and then turned the knife on her, attempting to attack her. Her daughters intervened and were able to take the knife away from him. Ali then left the residence.

Ali’s sister told officers he had also threatened her with the knife and demanded her car keys. She handed them over out of fear.

While officers were still at the home taking statements, Ali drove back to the residence in his sister’s vehicle. Officers placed him under arrest without further incident. He was released from jail a day later and his next court appearance on the charges is set for April 22.
