This stunning new construction home in Englewood Cliffs set a price record when it closed last week.
The six-bedroom, seven-full and two-half-bathroom, 11,000-square-foot modern French colonial home sold for $5.4 million — or $630,000 more than the borough’s previous highest home sale.
The record was previously held by a 10,000-square-foot, six-bedroom, eight-full and two-half-bathroom home that closed in August 2023 for $4.77 million.
The home was designed by Ridgewood-based architect Jordan Rosenberg and award-winning interior designer Vanessa DeLeon.
“We’ve done a few projects with the two of them together,” said listing agent Jason Pierce of Prominent Properties Sotheby’s International Realty in Tenafly. “To me that’s the dream team. We get really good results.”
The home, which was listed for sale in December 2024 for $5.8 million, attracted five offers and went under contract before construction was completed.
“At the top tier of the real estate market, beauty matters a lot,” Pierce said. “To be beautiful inside and out that commands a premium and this house did that well.”
It’s common in Englewood Cliffs to have older homes torn down and new, larger homes built.
“There are at least a dozen new builds going on right now,” he said. “It’s one of those markets that’s just very strong in new construction and has been for many years.”
The draw is its proximity to New York City. It’s the first suburb across the George Washington Bridge from New York City.
“For people who want to be close to New York City, this is the equivalent of dipping a toe into New Jersey,” Pierce said.
The home is located on an oversized 18,000-square-foot corner lot. The typical lot size in Englewood Cliffs is about 12,000 square feet, he said.
It has one-and-a-half-story ceilings in the family room, a signature element from Rosenberg.
“Sometimes with double height ceilings you feel like you get lost in the space and it’s too big,” Pierce said. “The one-and-a-half height feels grand but not overwhelming.”
It also has a golf simulator room in the lower level, a three-floor elevator and an outdoor kitchen that’s covered and has power-operated screen walls that can be retracted.
