BROOKLYN, N.Y. – An own goal doomed the Brooklyn Football Club to a 1-0 loss to Louisville City FC in a USL Championship match on Saturday night.

The defeat dropped ninth-place Brooklyn (3 points) to 1-4 in the Eastern Conference standings, while Louisville City (12) improved to 4-0-0.

The men played in the second game of a split doubleheader at Maimonides Park, as the Brooklyn FC women dropped a 1-0 decision to Lexington SC.

The lone goal of the match was scored on the hour as a deflected ball off Thomas Vancaeyezeele resulted in an own goal.

The hosts had a few opportunities. Vuk Latinovich’s close-range header sailed wide of the target before Vancaeyezeele followed with a point-blank header just missed the target.

Brooklyn goalkeeper Jackson Lee also played a key role in keeping the match level, making multiple saves to deny Louisville’s early opportunities.

After the own goal, Brooklyn responded with sustained attacking pressure and several clear chances. Markus Anderson forced a save with a driven effort from distance, while Stefan Stojanovic was denied from close range.

Later, Taimu Okiyoshi tested the goalkeeper with a shot from outside the area, but Louisville goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux remained composed to preserve the lead.
