The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School had some help raising $400,000 on Tuesday evening.
One of the school’s board members, Stephen Adly Guirgis, the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, previewed his stage adaptation of the classic film “Dog Day Afternoon” at the August Wilson Theater.
In the audience were Ben Affleck, Andrew Cuomo, Ken Sunshine, Tony Burgos, Lisa Belzberg and Jeff Zucker.
If you needed a criminal defense lawyer, you had your pick from Gerald Lefcourt, Orin Snyder, Judd Burstein and Marc Mukasey.

The play — with Jon Bernthal in the role that Al Pacino played in 1975 — got a standing ovation.
Dan Klores, the Peabody Award-winning director who founded the school, told the crowd, “The kids have already gone up six and a half grades in reading.”
Klores also said the school will move into its new home in the South Bronx in August with 69,000 sq. ft. on five floors, “purposefully in the nation’s poorest congressional district.”
The only sad note was that Knicks legend Earl Monroe, 81, wasn’t there.

Arthur Aidala will celebrate 1,000 episodes of his radio show, The Power Hour, on Tuesday with a live broadcast from Times Square.
The lawyer started on AM970 The Answer/WNYM four years ago, broadcasting five nights a week.
“Sometimes it’s a little exhausting after a day in court, but it’s a lot of fun,” Aidala said. “It’s as New York as New York can get. I’m trying to make it different from other media.”
Among his guests expected on Tuesday are Megyn Kelly, Geraldo Rivera, Rosanna Scotto, Lawrence Taylor and Carol Alt.
The two-hour event will broadcast live from 6-to-8 p.m. at USA Brooklyn Delicatessen on West 43rd Street.

Karen LeFrak is the wife of real estate mogul Richard LeFrak, whose father, Sam LeFrak, built LeFrak City in Queens. She’s also a composer.
LeFrak just had the world premiere of her piece “American Promise” with the Miami Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Eduardo Marturet. DJ Khaled, Emilio and Gloria Estefan also contributed their talents to the concert, which was a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Leading the applause were photographer Bruce Weber, Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins, and Kimberly Paige Bluhm, who was just named a board trustee at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach.

Oscar winner “F1,” starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, and Javier Bardem, may be drawing new racing fans into the fold.
The Miami Grand Prix, scheduled for May 1-3, last year drew Timothée Chalamet, Gordon Ramsay, DJ Khaled, boxer Evander Holyfield, and Baltimore Ravens’ running back Derrick Henry.
Across the ocean, this year’s TIME100 honoree and rock star, Yoshiki — who has shared the stage with the Jonas Brothers, Josh Groban, Ellie Goulding, Bono and will.i.am — is set to perform his country’s National Anthem at the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix Sunday.
Next up for Yoshiki is Walt Disney’s Concert Hall for two nights on July 16 and 17.

Dressed to Kilt, founded by the late Sean Connery and Dr. Geoffrey Scott Carroll, will return to New York on April 11.
This celebration of Scottish fashion, music and romance will take place at the New York Academy of Medicine on Museum Mile.
Special guest models include “Summer House” star Lindsay Hubbard, “Real Housewives of New York” alum and “Traitors” star Dorinda Medley, Miss Scotland 2026 Eilidh MacDonald, and NY1 news anchor Shannan Ferry.
The night will raise funds for the Navy SEAL Foundation.

South African DJ Black Coffee and eco-philanthropist Amy Green, founder of The Green Vision, hosted a concert and benefit dinner at Marea at Jayma Cardoso’s The Snow Lodge in The St. Regis Aspen (March 26).
Black Coffee has shared the stage with Drake, Usher, and David Guetta. Green previewed the GIADA Vegetable Cashmere capsule collection. The night also featured a fashion show by Bronx Banco.
