Manhattan High softball used a pair of big offensive performances to sweep Lawrence on Friday, winning 12-5 and 7-3.

The Indians pounded out 27 hits across the doubleheader, getting standout efforts from Gracyn Neitzel and Tierra Young in each game.

In the opener, Neitzel drove in five runs on four hits to lead the way as Manhattan pulled away late for a 12-5 win.

After falling behind early, Manhattan answered in the third inning as Neitzel delivered a triple and later helped the Indians reclaim the lead in the fourth with a two-run single.

The Indians broke things open late, scoring three runs in the sixth before adding four more in the seventh to create separation.

Manhattan finished with 16 hits in the game, with multiple-hit performances from Neitzel, Aslyn Foveaux, Josi Alesana, Solveig Chase, Kat Ball and Maryn Meusborn. Meusborn also added three stolen bases as the Indians created pressure on the bases throughout.

In the circle, Alesana was strong in relief, allowing just one run — none earned — over four innings while striking out seven.

Game 2 followed a similar script, with Manhattan using timely hitting to secure a 7-3 win.

Foveaux got the Indians on the board early with an RBI triple in the first, and after Lawrence tied it in the second, Manhattan took control in the middle innings.

Young delivered the biggest swing of the game in the fourth, driving in two runs with a single to give the Indians the lead. She struck again in the fifth with another two-run single as part of a three-run inning.

Young finished with four RBIs on three hits, while Neitzel added a solo home run as part of a two-hit game. Manhattan totaled 11 hits in the second game, with Alesana, Foveaux and Neitzel each recording multiple hits.

Allison Heidrick handled the pitching duties in Game 2, striking out 12 batters while allowing four hits and three runs across seven innings.

The sweep gives Manhattan momentum heading into its home opener, as the Indians are set to host Great Bend and McPherson on Tuesday at the new CiCo Park Steel and Pipe Supply Ballpark.
