The release of the 38-year-old Gano, who has battled injuries the past three seasons, has been expected throughout the offseason. Waiving Gano will save the Giants $4.5 million against the salary cap.
Rookie placekicker Ben Sauls went 8 of 8 over the final three games last season. This offseason, the Giants also signed former Miami Dolphins placekicker Jason Sanders.
It was obvious that the Giants were not going to go through yet another season hoping that Gano would stay injury-free.
Gano made 26 field goals of more than 50 yards with the Giants, the most in franchise history.
A 16-year veteran, Gano spent the last six seasons with the Giants. He made 118 of 135 field-goal attempts with New York (87.4%). During the 2020 and 2021 seasons, he made a franchise-record 37 consecutive field goals.
Gano kicked in only five games in 2025, and appeared in just 23 of 51 potential regular-season games the past three years.
