If you have noticed a different taste and smell of your water recently, Erie County Water Authority officials say that it is normal.

The ECWA is responding to customer concerns saying that during this time of year, certain conditions and compounds can cause changes to the taste and smell of tap water. It reinforces that these issues are harmless and pose no threat to health.

“This is a common occurrence this time of year. Certain conditions exist and compounds can be produced which may impact odor and taste. It is important to understand that these conditions are harmless and pose no threat to human health and safety,” the ECWA said on X.

Water authority officials suggest that to improve those issues, you can add ice or lemon and chill your water before drinking.

“While we understand the concern, it is important to reiterate that this poses no threat to health and human safety nor to pets and animals,” they added.
