NEW YORK CITY — Fat Ronnie’s Burger Bar, a Martha’s Vineyard institution, recently opened a new location in the West Village.
Founded by Reynaldo “Ronnie” Faust, Fat Ronnie’s carries forward a five-generation family legacy that stretches from Harlem to Oak Bluffs and now back to Manhattan.
The nickname “Fat Ronnie” was coined by Ronnie Sr., who was known in their Harlem neighborhood for his burgers.
The grandson of Maxine Faust, the first Black union butcher in the United States, Ronnie’s family has owned and operated some of Harlem’s most beloved restaurants, butcher shops, and bars including Maxine’s, Meat Masters, Twenty Two West, Dolls Bar, and Jewels Bar.
From a young age, Ronnie worked alongside his grandmother and father at Maxine’s, learning and perfecting the craft of burger making.
In 2013, Ronnie carried the family business forward with the opening of a humble burger bar in Oak Bluffs, the Black enclave in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts
The opening of Fat Ronnie’s in the West Village sees Ronnie bringing the family business back home to Manhattan. A third location of Fat Ronnie’s is planned for re-opening in Miami Beach in 2027.
Fat Ronnie’s specializes in all natural, butcher-grade, pub-style Angus beef burgers grilled to order.
Guests can customize their burger from over 32 different toppings, ranging from classics like cheddar and caramelized onions, to wildcards like grilled pineapple and house made sauces, creating thousands of possible combinations.
Another house signature is the CGB, Fat Ronnie’s version of Harlem’s iconic bodega sandwich – chopped cheese. And no Martha’s Vineyard concept would be complete without fresh Atlantic codfish sandwiches, Fish & Chips, or a proper no-filler, claw-and-knuckle Lobster Roll.
The menu also highlights six varieties of Mac-N-Cheese and a sub-menu dedicated to chicken sandwiches, tenders, and wings. Vegetarian options span a selection of salads as well as five varieties of veggie burgers featuring house made sweet potato black bean and quinoa cauliflower patties.
Fat Ronnie’s Burger Bar is located at 303 6th Avenue in the West Village. For more information on the opening you can visit this website.
