DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN – STAFF MEMBERS AT the New York Transit Museum last week unanimously voted to unionize, through District Council 37 AFSCME, amNY reports

The vote covers 30 employees who work for the nonprofit that runs the museum; staff in the museum’s gift shop, who work for the MTA, unionized last year through the Transport Workers Union Local 100.

Staff say they are seeking higher pay, job security and a greater voice in the museum’s operations, and will now seek to negotiate a contract with management, which did not voluntarily recognize the union and has not yet responded to the vote.

“The general vibe is very positive at the museum right now, and we’re looking forward to going into bargaining,” organizer Ava Dennis told amNY.
