Projekt NYC and the Astoria Park Alliance teamed up March 21 to support the annual Astoria Park Beautification Day, bringing in 75 teens from across Queens and elsewhere to participate in the effort.

The students wound up logging more than 150 community service hours and raking up enough leaves to fill more than 160 good-sized bags, prepping the space for spring.

Above, volunteers Elsa Lucas, left, Ethan Opuiyo, Becky Lin and Ian Klingman of Projekt NYC’s Teen Advisory Council check in students who signed up to participate. The TAC also supervised the teams doing the work and ensured everyone received verified community service hours.

“Our young people showed up ready to work, ready to serve, and ready to make a visible difference in their community,” Projekt NYC Executive Director Ted Psahos said in a statement. “Their energy and commitment are exactly what makes New York City so special.”
