ALBERT LEA, Minn. — The Albert Lea Public Library is hosting a Bring Your Own Lunch and Learn program about Iowa State University’s role in the Manhattan Project on April 9.
Teresa Waldof, described as the world’s leading expert on the topic, will present “The Ames Project: Iowa State University and the Manhattan Project.” The Manhattan Project was a research and development program during World War II to produce the first nuclear weapons.
Attendees will learn about Dr. Harley Wilhelm and the Ames Project division of the Manhattan Project. Wilhelm was instrumental in producing pure uranium required for developing the atomic bomb.
Waldof will detail his work and discuss the book she wrote called “Wilhelm’s Way.” The program runs from noon to 1 p.m. in the Council Chambers on the top floor of City Hall, 221 E. Clark St.
