Associated Supermarket Group (ASG) is making a bold move in New York City’s independent grocery landscape, opening two new neighborhood grocery stores on the same day — one in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, and another in the Wakefield/Eastchester corridor of the Bronx.

Both grand openings take place on Friday, April 10, marking a significant expansion for the wholesale grocery cooperative that backs independent, family-owned stores across the Northeast.

Met Fresh Opens New Store in Fort Greene, Brooklyn

Fort Greene gets a fresh start. Met Fresh officially opens its doors at 340 Myrtle Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11205, on April 10 at 9:30 a.m., bringing everyday grocery essentials back to a community that thrives on local pride.

Returning operator Danny Hamdan owns and runs the new location — and for him, this opening carries personal weight.

“We’re excited to be back in Brooklyn and especially in Fort Greene,” Hamdan said. “This neighborhood has a strong sense of community, and we’re proud to create a store that reflects that — where people can shop comfortably, find what they need, and feel connected.”

The store stocks fresh produce, quality meats, pantry staples, and grab-and-go items, catering directly to residents’ day-to-day needs. Hamdan built the shopping experience around three pillars: quality, value, and convenience.

The grand opening celebration features a ribbon-cutting ceremony, special promotions, and a community event that brings together residents, neighborhood partners, and local leaders. Fort Greene’s Myrtle Avenue corridor serves as a natural hub for foot traffic, positioning the store as a daily destination for surrounding blocks.

Shop Fresh Food Expands Its Neighborhood Grocery Presence with Fifth Bronx Location

Momentum is building in the Bronx. Shop Fresh Food opens its fifth location at 4159 White Plains Road, Bronx, NY 10466, on April 10 at 1 p.m. — further cementing the banner’s growing presence in one of New York City’s most culturally vibrant boroughs.

Owner and operator Neidy Marte leads the charge, bringing fresh groceries and culturally relevant products to the busy White Plains Road retail strip in the Wakefield/Eastchester neighborhood.

“Opening our fifth Bronx location is incredibly meaningful,” Marte said. “This community is full of energy, culture, and pride. We built this store to reflect that — to offer fresh products, friendly service, and a place where neighbors feel comfortable and taken care of every time they walk through our doors.”

The new store features a modern, easy-to-navigate layout, competitive pricing, and a curated selection of fresh produce, premium meats, and everyday staples. Marte built the assortment specifically to mirror the tastes and needs of the surrounding community. This strategy has driven Shop Fresh Food’s consistent growth across its four existing Bronx locations.

The grand opening celebration includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony, grand-opening sales, and special promotions to welcome local families to their newest community shopping destination.

ASG Doubles Down on Independent Grocery Across New York City

Together, these two neighborhood grocery store openings reflect ASG’s broader strategy: invest in underserved urban communities by empowering independent operators with the infrastructure, distribution, and marketing support they need to compete against larger chains.

ASG equips its network of independently owned stores with distribution, merchandising, promotional services, and store financing — giving operators like Hamdan and Marte the tools to run competitive, community-rooted businesses without losing their neighborhood identity.

As part of this expansion, on March 27, ASG celebrated the grand opening of Antillana Superfoods at 616 Melrose Avenue in the Bronx, NY.

The new supermarket features a diverse produce section, a well-stocked deli, and a top-quality butcher shop, giving customers access to fresh ingredients and everyday essentials.

The store also offers a wide range of international and specialty products that highlight the area’s cultural richness.

This opening brings a new, attractive shopping destination to the neighborhood, offering a modern, convenient experience that supports local families.

The group’s banner portfolio includes Associated, Met Foods, Met Fresh, Pioneer, Compare Fresh, and several other independently owned store brands, all operating across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
