Earlier this year, Mayor Zohran Mamdani teamed up with Gov. Kathy Hochul to announce a major expansion of early child care programs, pledging free seats for toddlers across the five boroughs.
For Mamdani, the policy is a key campaign promise that’s intended to save families tens of thousands of dollars on child care costs. However, charter school advocates argue that the expansion does not provide equal funding for students of charter schools.
Eva Moskowitz, the CEO and founder of Success Academy Charter Schools, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to discuss more.
“I would think that anyone who’s super supportive of early childhood would wanna include us. The charter sector in New York City is performing exceptionally well. And so, you have a built-in set of institutions that can quickly deliver for our poorest children and families,” she said.
