STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Those planning on making their way to church this Easter Sunday may want to pack an umbrella.

There is a high probability that rain showers will impact New York City throughout the day this Easter, according to John Murray, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

A cold front moving into the area on Sunday will bring wet weather with it. Rain could even begin falling as early as Saturday night, Murray told the Advance/SILive.com.

Murray expects light rain to come down on the city from at least 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The daily high temperature is expected to reach around 68 degrees, with a forecast low of about 44, according to the National Weather Service.

Murray believes south/southwest winds will measure between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts reaching up to 25 mph, particularly along the coasts.

In total, the city is forecast to receive under half an inch of rain, Murray said.

“So not a whole lot of rain, but just enough to make for a damp day just with the duration of the rainfall,” he added.

Murray expects the rain to begin tapering off by 8 p.m. Sunday.
