STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) — An SUV hit and killed a man waiting at a bus stop near the Staten Island Mall early Monday morning, police said.

The 40-year-old man was struck across from the Lidl grocery store near 112 Richmond Hill Rd. at around 12:33 a.m., according to the NYPD.

Police said the 50-year-old driver lost control of his Nissan Pathfinder before hitting the victim standing at a bus stop.

The man was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved, police said. He has not been identified.

The driver remained at the scene. There have been no arrests.

The investigation is ongoing.
