A group of car thieves was thwarted from completing a high-dollar heist in New York City on Sunday, April 5, after an attendant at a parking garage closed the security gate in the midst of the robbery, according to local news reports.
The heist was first reported on Freedom News TV around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, with video from the scene showing a damaged 2023 McLaren Artura, a 2023 Mercedes-AMG G63, a 2025 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and a Volvo XC60. The Mercedes and Volvo SUVs were parked haphazardly on West 43rd Street in Manhattan with apparent body damage, while the Range Rover was sandwiched inside the half-closed security gate. Forensic teams from the New York Police Department appeared to be dusting the crashed McLaren for fingerprints.

The New York Post reports that four or five robbers entered the garage on West 43rd Street near 11th Avenue around 6 a.m. and broke into the luxury vehicles. Only one vehicle, the McLaren Artura, made it past the entrance of the garage before crashing into a nearby pole on 42nd Street and 11th Avenue. The parking attendant on duty reportedly stopped the thieves by closing the security gate, though a white Range Rover was damaged in the process. Vehicle owners told The New York Post that the thieves were able to easily access the vehicles because the keys were kept inside the vehicles.
“My car was severely damaged. My car key was inside. The car key was inside the car,” the owner of the Volvo XC60, who said his name was Hassam, said to The New York Post.
NYPD sources told The New York Post that the thieves fled in a gray BMW and had not been apprehended as of Sunday afternoon.
