FAIRFIELD, CT (WFSB) – Two New York men schemed to order energy-efficient thermostats with fake names and have them delivered to addresses in Connecticut, according to police.
The suspects were identified as Teon Thomas, 24, of Rochester, NY, and Dawud Gause-Seignious, 23, of Wyandanch, NY.

Police in Fairfield said they received a complaint that two me were spotted removing packages from residential properties on March 4 around 1:40 p.m.
The packages were taken from the James and Pratt Street areas of Fairfield, police said.
“Through the investigation, officers determined that the suspects were involved in a scheme using fictitious names to order energy efficient thermostats through a rebate program and have them delivered to residential addresses in Fairfield,” said Sgt. Jenna Wellington, Fairfield police. “The suspects would then retrieve the packages without permission from the homeowners.”
Police said they recovered seven packages that contained a total of 14 Google Nest thermostats. The total value was about $3,900.
“The investigation revealed that the rebate program is intended for residents to install the devices at their homes, and misuse of the program results in financial loss to the utility provider,” Wellington said.
Thomas was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, criminal impersonation, and third-degree criminal trespass.
He was released on a promise to appear in court.
Gause-Seignious was charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny.
