NYC Health + Hospitals today announced NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Chief Executive Officer Dr. Eric Wei, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Department of Anesthesiology, Chief of Service, Dr Sudheer Jain, NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health Chief Executive Officer Michelle Lewis, and NYC Health + Hospitals System Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Affairs and Business Strategy Dr. Sewit Teckie have been named to the Crain’s New York Business ‘2026 Notable Leaders in Health Care’ recognition list. Dr. Wei, Dr. Jain, Lewis, and Dr. Teckie are recognized for their excellence in the health care sector and for their commitment to supporting underserved communities across New York City. The nominees were put forward for consideration by their peers, companies, and acquaintances, and then selected by Crain’s New York Business editors based on their demonstrated accomplishments, professional success, and meaningful contributions to their respective industries. Crain’s New York Business connects businesses across the five boroughs by providing analysis and opinion on how to navigate New York’s complex business and political landscape.

Eric Wei, MD, MBA serves as Chief Executive Officer for NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, the oldest hospital in the United States dating back to 1736. Dr. Wei also serves as Senior Vice President for NYC Health + Hospitals, the nation’s largest municipal safety-net health system, serving over 1.3 million New Yorkers every year. He is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai and Adjunct Professor at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. He is a practicing Emergency Medicine physician who has rotated through all 11 Emergency Departments in the system. Dr. Wei serves as faculty for the NYC Health + Hospitals Clinical Leadership Fellowship, the Greater New York Hospital Association/United Hospital Fund Clinical Quality Fellowship Program, and Ariadne Labs. He is also on the Advisory Committees for the CQFP and the UHF Health Equity Fellowship. He has been a champion for healthcare worker wellbeing and founded the Helping Healers Heal (H3) Program, starting in LAC+USC Medical Center before expanding it throughout the safety-net systems in Los Angeles and New York City. H3 has since been spread to over 40 countries, and over 100,000 healthcare workers across the globe have been trained through Project Hope. Dr. Wei was named in Modern Healthcare’s 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives and in the Becker’s Hospital Review Top 50 Patient Safety Experts. He has been featured in the New York Times, PBS News Hour, NBC Nightly News, CBS Nightly News, Good Morning America, and Crain’s New York Business.

Michelle Lewis is a visionary healthcare leader who is shaping the future of healthcare delivery at Gotham Health. As CEO, Ms. Lewis is driving Gotham Health’s expansive growth while ensuring the organization continues to provide high-quality, equitable care to all New Yorkers, regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. Michelle Lewis worked closely with the city to develop three advanced ambulatory sites in the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn, with a fourth facility currently under construction in Far Rockaway. These state-of-the-art sites offer both specialty and primary care services, expanding access to healthcare in under-resourced areas.  With over 20 years of experience, she has built a reputation for leading transformative initiatives, optimizing patient care, and fostering strong, mission-driven teams.  Ms. Lewis has led the introduction of essential clinical services across the enterprise, including dermatology and advanced radiology offerings such as MRI, CT scans, and 3D mammography, significantly improving access to early detection, screening, and specialized care in under-resourced communities. Michelle Lewis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lehman College in New York and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.

Sewit Teckie, MD, MBA is the System Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Affairs and Business Strategy at NYC Health + Hospitals. She oversees a vast portfolio that includes physician enterprise, medical affairs, graduate medical education, specialty service lines, and clinical business planning. A practicing radiation oncologist, she specializes in treating head-and-neck cancers and brain tumors. Since joining the system in 2022, Dr. Teckie spearheaded critical oncology upgrades and co-led initiatives to streamline patient access to cancer care. Dr. Teckie holds degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, completed her residency at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, and earned an executive MBA with honors from Columbia University. Originally from Eritrea, Dr. Teckie combines world-class clinical expertise with a global perspective on healthcare leadership.

Sudheer Jain, MD, is Chief of Service for the Department of Anesthesiology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where oversees the department’s clinical operations, educational initiatives, and research endeavors. Dr. Jain is actively engaged in many of the hospital’s administrative functions, including institutional credentialing, risk management, quality improvement, and peer review. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Dr. Jain received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed his anesthesiology residency at NYU University School of Medicine. He is board-certified in Anesthesiology and has earned the distinction of Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Jain is an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, and the American Board of Anesthesiology, and has been inducted into the prestigious Academy of Anesthesiology.
