The Syracuse Common Council is now making vendors disclose if they do business with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Vendors will now be required to simply check a box when trying to get a city contract.

This comes after concerns were raised by some that city money was going to companies that worked with ICE.

“This is not the most exciting thing — a check box on a vendor contract. It is the thing that we can do to ensure that we know who we are funding and what they are being funded by,” Democratic Common Councilor-at-Large Hanah Ehrenreich.

Despite this change, the city can still maintain existing contracts with companies that work with ICE.
