BROOKLYN — BROOKLYN BOROUGH PRESIDENT Antonio Reynoso won the Queens County Democratic Party’s endorsement in the race to succeed Rep. Nydia Velázquez in New York’s 7th Congressional District, the party confirmed to City & State. The vote took place in early February, but the Reynoso campaign did not publicize it — an awkward fit for a candidate who co-founded the New Kings Democrats to reform Brooklyn machine politics.

The endorsement puts Reynoso, who formerly represented part of Ridgewood in the City Council, ahead of two Queens-based opponents: Assemblymember Claire Valdez, backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and Councilmember Julie Won

Won told City & State she never sought the county party’s support, while Valdez noted she won her Assembly seat without it.
